 PT Adjunct Faculty – BFA Interior Architecture Program

Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,500 undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing arts, media, and communications, in a liberal arts setting.

The Art + Design Department is currently seeking qualified Part-Time Adjunct Faculty to teach Building Information Modeling and VIZ/3D in the BFA Interior Architecture program. BIM methodology is based on the concept of Parametric Modeling: assigning information to 3 dimensional objects, which is automatically updated as the model changes and evolves. Utilizing BIM students generate orthographic drawings and, additionally, specifications, scheduling, managing cost, etc. 3-D Studio VIZ is a program used to quickly create professional-quality 3 dimensional models, photo-realistic still images, and film-quality animation on the PC.

Industry and/or teaching experience is required; NCIDQ desired for studio instructors; LEED-AP especially encouraged. Applications will be accepted on an on-going basis.

 PT Network Technician

Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting. The Art + Design Department is currently seeking a skilled part-time Network Technician who will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and improvement of the Art + Design Department’s computer infrastructure. This includes the physical layer of switches and cables as well as system configuration and administration. While the primary focus of the position is network and server maintenance, workstation configuration and troubleshooting will also be required.

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience. The work of the technician demands considerable technical knowledge of Mac and PC computers (Mac OS 10.5, Windows XP, Vista); experience with Mac OS X Server support and administration; experience with firewall, router and switch configuration; strong troubleshooting skills; ability to work in and support a cross platform environment; working knowledge of network systems, wireless systems, and printing server software; experience working with directory services (Active Directory, Open Directory, LDAP), and ability to learn new technologies quickly.

The network technician must possess excellent documentation skills; a high level of organization, efficiency and attention to detail; and excellent communication skills needed to assist students, work aids, faculty and staff. Experience with command line tools and scripting is preferred, and experience with software license management is a plus.

Columbia College is seeking a faculty member to serve as Chair of its nationally and internationally prominent Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management (AEMM) Department. Rank for the position is open, with strong preference for a senior faculty member with a record suitable for appointment with tenure.

AEMM is a highly successful and vibrant department that has experienced rapid growth in its enrollment over the past five years. With a diverse student body of over 1,400 undergraduate majors and more than 150 graduate students, the department is one of the largest arts management departments in the world. Students concentrate in arts entrepreneurship/small business, arts in youth and community development, fashion retail management, media management, music business, performing arts management, sports management, or visual arts management. The department offers a Bachelors and a Master of Arts Management degree.

The Chair will provide intellectual leadership to the faculty and programs, as well as ensure the department’s continued alignment with emerging trends in the arts fields. The faculty is comprised of 17 full-time members with an array of research, practitioner, and active performance portfolios, and more than 100 adjunct faculty who teach courses embedded in state of the art practice. The Department is characterized by collegial and engaged interactions among faculty, staff, and students. The Chair will hold a full time faculty appointment with an initial three year Chair’s term, with the expectation of two or more terms to be served as Chair.

• Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, evaluate, and develop tenured, tenure-track, and adjunct faculty, as well as experience in managing administrative and support staff.
• Ability to teach in one or more fields related to department, as well as in at least one area of the department’s core courses.
• Experience in convening ongoing, directed dialogue among internal and external constituents in setting group aims and goals.
• Understanding of how arts management interfaces with society at large, with a particular commitment to forging new partnerships with local and regional social, educational, business and arts organizations, as well as a commitment to coalition building with other arts and media institutions nationally and internationally.
• Interest in generating and nurturing collegial and sustained interdepartmental relationships and collaborations within the College.
• Commitment to developing new programs and, in conjunction with Dean, fundraising to support department initiatives.

Principal duties

Qualifications / Experience
● Advanced (required) or terminal (preferred) degree in a field relevant to the position. Alternatively, candidates must have commensurate professional experience within the live sound reinforcement industry and be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of relevant theory and practice. Significant depth, appropriate to research or creative endeavor, is expected in at least one focused area, supported by successful completion of relevant academic courses. Recent graduates must demonstrate exceptional promise, as assessed by the search committee, in lieu of extensive professional and teaching experience.
● Extensive experience in live sound reinforcement for a variety of musical styles and contexts (e.g. small- and large-scale musical, theater, corporate, or other events that include an audio component).
● Substantial familiarity with analogue and (ideally) digital live-sound reinforcement systems, including array, RF, and monitor system configurations.
● Demonstrated record of teaching on topics relevant to the position.

 Full-time Lecturer, POS 867

Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting. The Department of Dance is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer, one year appointment, to begin August 16, 2010.

This position will teach undergraduate dance majors and participate broadly in our community of students, artists and scholars. The ideal candidate will bring substantial expertise in dance making, dance making in community settings and/or dance as civic engagement. Possible teaching assignments include: dance technique, dancemaking, improvisation, somatic practices, pedagogy, concert production, technology, and/or music for dance. Incumbent will carry a full load of four courses and/or choreography or production oversight assignments each semester. Lecturers also advise students and participate in departmental service. Use of active teaching and learning approaches is expected, as well as demonstrated ability to embed course concepts in real world application.

This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Employment runs from August 16, 2010 to June 1, 2011 encompassing two 15-week semesters, a 5-week semester break and 1-week spring break.

Qualifications include an MFA or PhD (preferred). Candidates should demonstrate broad knowledge and experience in the subjects they would teach. Prior teaching experience at the college/university level and a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates are essential.

Columbia College Chicago’s Dance Center is one of eight departments in the School of Fine and Performing Arts: Art and Design, Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management, Dance, Dance/Movement Therapy, Fiction Writing, Music, Photography, and Theater. The Dance Department emphasizes contemporary dance training in improvisation, composition and modern dance technique, with supporting technique training in classical ballet and various dance styles and forms; along with substantial studies in dance history, cross-cultural perspectives, contemporary trends in dance, pedagogy, somatics and kinesiology, rhythm and music for dancers, performance and choreographic projects, internships, and dance production. The program, with 250 majors, offers both BA and BFA degrees in Dance. Our faculty of eight full-time and 30 part-time teachers is comprised of accomplished dance professionals who are active in the regional and national dance scene. We host guest artist/teachers each semester, recently including Reggie Wilson, Lar Lubovitch, Joe Goode, Wendy Rogers, David Gordon, Simone Forti, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Danny Buraczeski, Millicent Hodson, and Rebecca Lazier. The Dance Center produces an internationally recognized presenting series in our 272-seat, state-of-the-art black box theater. Recent companies and artists include The Merce Cunningham Dance Company, White Oak Dance Project, Chandraleka, Joe Goode Performance Group, Doug Varone and Dancers, Stephen Petronio Company, Susan Marshall and Company, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Random Dance Company, Australian Dance Theater, and Urban Bush Woman. Our facility includes six dance studios plus a theater, a sound/media lab, two student lounges, a media library, and an experienced support and technical staff.
