 LECTURER

The Art + Design Department of Columbia College Chicago invites applications for a one year visiting lecturer position beginning August 16, 2008 with the possibility of renewal through 2010. We seek a scholar with research and teaching expertise in theory, visual culture, modern and contemporary art preferably with an awareness of global interactions. Preference will be given to a candidate with an interest in the interchange between design and artistic practices. The position will involve teaching survey courses and more focused thematic courses at the introductory and advanced levels. Teaching load is three courses per semester with the expectations of departmental service, including advising and curriculum building. Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered.

The Arts, Entertainment and Media Management Department is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member with proven expertise in entrepreneurship in creative endeavors for fall, 2008.

This position provides quality instruction in the undergraduate core and graduate core programs of the Arts, Entertainment and Media Management Department. S/he must have the ability to teach in several of the following areas: Economics, Strategic Management, Data Analysis/Statistics. S/he will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Arts Entrepreneurship curriculum. The individual must be able to direct undergraduate or graduate research projects and theses, supervise professional practice (internships and practica), and advise majors regarding general career options and professional matters. S/he will be an expert in and be able to teach the technology affecting the arts, entertainment and media management fields.

This individual will also closely work with the staff of the Arts Entrepreneurship Center and the Coordinator of the Arts Entrepreneurship Concentration to maintain the quality and rigor of the curriculum and maintain a nationally ranked program.

The faculty member will be actively involved in planning and assessing the entrepreneurship curriculum of the Arts, Entertainment and Media Management Department. Working with the Coordinator of the Arts Entrepreneurship Concentration, s/he will research and prepare relevant class proposals to maintain and improve the curriculum as necessary. S/he will have to maintain and develop relationships with the other academic departments at Columbia College Chicago and represent the Arts, Entertainment and Media Management in the field of arts entrepreneurship. Candidates will have a proven track record in fundraising including working with sponsors and donors.

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree, Ph.D. preferred, in entrepreneurship or have equivalent experience to teach arts entrepreneurship courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Teaching experience at the college level strongly preferred, significant professional accomplishments in the arts and cultural management field are required. A history of distinguished professional service may substitute for the terminal degree requirement. The standard for distinction is generally a sustained period of professional activity at the highest levels of endeavor within the field.

The position requires sound decision making skills, including trouble-shooting responsibilities.
